Wastewater Reuse & Recycle project for treated sewage water supply to WIL facility at Anjar (30 MLD capacity STP and 10 MLD TTP at Anjar

Duration: July 2014 to Dec 2016

Welspun City, situated in Anjar town in Kutch district of Gujarat State is a diversified manufacturing base spread over about 1000 Ha and has a number of companies of Welspun group. The inadequate water supply was posing a challenge, M/S Welspun Infratech Ltd. entered into a concession agreement with Anjar Nagar Palika (ANP) and Gandhidham Adipur Nagar Palika (GNP) to set up a STP with necessary allied works using sustainable technology for recycling treated sewage for re-use in the premises of Welspun city for process requirements. This would satisfy the water demand of the industry and also facilitate fresh water conservation and prevention of pollution of surface water sources due to sewage.

The major components of the project are pumping station, three numbers rising mains (total 16 km) to transfer the raw sewage from both Nagar Palikas to the location of STP and the treatment plant itself.

The DPR, tender documents was prepared by NJSEI and all associated works are completed and “Sewerage Treatment Plant” is commissioned under NJSEI Supervision.

Sewerage Treatment Plant has screening, grit removal, extended aeration (anoxic and aerobic), secondary sedimentation, deep bed multimedia filtration, disinfection and sludge handling system consisting of gravity thickener and belt filter press. The design inlet BOD and COD are 275 mg/l and 600 mg/l respectively.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation have awarded Welspun India Limited, a global leader in home textile, the National Water Award. The award was given in appreciation of Welspun’s cutting-edge sewage treatment plant in the drought-prone Kutch district’s social and environmental impact.

Outcome:-

The 40 MLD sewage treatment plant, uses cutting-edge wastewater treatment technology to recycle urban sewage water as high-quality clean water for industrial usage, making it one of India’s first such facilities. This allowed Welspun to achieve 0% freshwater usage for industrial applications at its Anjar manufacturing facility, while also reducing the pollution caused by the flow of untreated municipal sewage into the sea prior to the STP Plant’s commissioning.

Furthermore, Welspun pays the Urban Authority a Royalty of almost 50 lakhs per year, which is currently being utilized for various urban development efforts. The treated sewage is having BOD less than 10 mg/l, COD less than 50 mg/l, S. S. less than 10 mg/l, turbidity less than 10 NTU, total N less than 5 mg/l, phosphate less than 5 mg/l, faecal coliform MPN less than 2 and D. O. more than 2 mg/l. The treated effluent from the above plant is being treated in a tertiary treatment plant by Welspun to meet the process water quality required by the industry.
